Marriage in our community
Congratulations on your engagement. Christian marriage is a lifelong covenant of love and faithfulness, made before God and supported by the prayers and care of the Church.
At St. Paul’s, a wedding belongs within the life of a worshiping community. We hope you will find a church home here, with support for your marriage and opportunities to worship, grow in faith, and serve others. Join us on Sundays at 8:00 am or 10:00 am and introduce yourselves to our clergy as you explore life at St. Paul’s.
St. Paul’s celebrates the marriages of same-sex and different-sex couples. All couples are invited into the same faithful preparation for a life of mutual love, respect, and commitment, using marriage rites authorized by The Episcopal Church.

Preparing for your wedding
Who can marry at the Cathedral?
Wedding services and receptions at the Cathedral are available to members of St. Paul’s and members of other parishes in the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa. If you are not a member of one of these congregations, please speak with clergy about your circumstances. An exception requires approval from the Dean or Bishop.
How do we prepare and plan the service?
The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage in the Book of Common Prayer is the primary resource for weddings at St. Paul’s. The Dean and/or other clergy will guide you through preparation and help plan the service using the Church’s authorized liturgies.
How do we arrange a date and reserve the facilities?
Please speak with clergy before finalizing your plans. After your wedding is approved, the Cathedral office will coordinate scheduling and notify the Altar Guild wedding coordinator. Payment of the reservation fee is required to reserve the facilities. An inquiry or requested date does not reserve a wedding.
