A song we share
Music in worship belongs to the whole congregation. As we sing hymns and join in the service, our voices become part of a shared prayer. You are welcome to take part, whether you know the music well or are hearing it for the first time.

Cathedral Choir
The Cathedral Choir helps lead the congregation’s song at the 10:00 am Sunday Eucharist and at special services throughout the church year.
Drawing on the Anglican choral tradition, the choir sings hymns, psalms, service music, and anthems. This shared work brings people together through music, prayer, and service.

Sound that fills the cathedral
The Casavant organ
Built by Casavant Frères in 1993, St. Paul’s pipe organ has 68 ranks and nearly 4,000 pipes. Its range of sounds supports congregational singing, accompanies the choir, and brings music to life in worship and recitals.
From a gentle melody to a full festival sound, the organ helps shape the character of a service and invites us to listen as well as sing.

Music beyond our walls
The Cathedral carillon
A carillon is an instrument made up of tuned bells. St. Paul’s 25-bell carillon offers music as a gift to the wider community, its sound carrying across downtown Des Moines.
The bells chime at the top of the hour and play seasonal hymns at noon, 5:00 pm, and 6:00 pm each day. For people walking, working, or living nearby, they are part of the sound of the neighborhood.
